Point 4 All Stars Crush Bong Mine Bridge Girls 7-1

first_imgThe Mandela Sports Field on Bushrod Island in Monrovia was a scene of jubilation last Monday evening as locals, Point 4 All Stars whipped their Bong Mine Bridge counterparts 7-1 in kickball. It was a friendly match that brought many young people from both communities together to enjoy the game. What apparently drew a large crowd to the fenceless field was due to the official suspension of sporting activities by sports authorities in the wake of the fight against the deadly Ebola virus in the country.Though the battle to defeat the Ebola virus has overwhelmed the Liberian government and sporting activities are still suspended, organizers could not explain to the Daily Observer the reason for their friendly match. But a scheduled friendly soccer match between two teams, one identified as Military Baptist Soccer Team, was cancelled due to poor weather. The kickball encounter produced excitement for the players and fans as Point 4 All Stars, led by Getie, who pitched most of the balls, managed to get most of her players running at home, and increasing their points.“They are no match to our skills,” a player of the winning side, told the Daily Observer, after the match about their opponents, Bong Mine Bridge Girls. She said Bong Mine Bridge, “has always challenged us to a game and now we have beaten them 7-1 so now they know who is the best in kickball.”On the field itself every time the winners increased their points, there was wild jubilation by their supporters as they ran on the field. On several occasions, there also heated arguments about who had run home safely who has not but whatever the results were did not dampen the spirit of the game.Though the Daily Observer did not see any chlorine buckets in the area, with players and fans cheering and running on the field, it was clear they were determined to enjoy one of Liberia’s past times, kickball.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
