Photo credit: nationnews.comGEORGETOWN, Guyana (GINA) — Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr Roger Luncheon at a post-Cabinet media briefing on Wednesday responded to the announcement of eternal sources assisting with the investigations into the rape allegations made against Guyana’s police commissioner, Henry Greene. He said that, while the reality of the investigations is a constitutional responsibility of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF’s) Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate its commissioner, it is also one that can pose questions in the minds of Guyanese and other onlookers. The HPS noted, “Those ranks who inveighed against the commissioner and have already deemed him guilty, might not be pleased with an outcome not supportive of their premature conclusions and may very well have questions directed at such findings.”Similarly from the perspective of the Commissioner, outcomes that he considers disadvantageous might generate comments from his perspective about objectivity of the investigative ranks. “The decision made to get external support for the CID is one that assures or has the potential of assuring us that a process that we can all embrace has been unveiled and that the external support would offer inputs of some quality that would support the GPF’s CID in concluding this investigation,” Luncheon said. In this regard, support has been extended by the Jamaican Constabulary to assist in the investigation of the matter. The commissioner has proceeded on leave to facilitate an investigation into allegations made against him by a 34-year-old woman. Assistant Commissioner Leroy Brummel is now acting commissioner.
