Postponed GRFU Sevens set for this weekend

first_imgTHE Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will host its postponed Sevens tournament this Sunday at the National Park’s athletics track.According to a GRFU release, since the original rugby pitch at the National Park is being upgraded and modified by the National Sports Commission and other stakeholders, the union was forced to seek an alternative ground.Hence, the National Park’s athletic track was chosen to be the new pitch which also has its own challenges, many of which were underestimated thus leading into last weekend’s tournament being postponed.Meanwhile, the GRFU is calling for increased efforts between the union’s executive, organising committee, coaches, clubs, players and friends of the sport, to collaborate in a better way with the National Park for the Sunday’s match. The pitch has been cleared of the high grass but it’s yet to be rolled and levelled, to avoid players being injured, as a result of holes and vehicle tracks that remained after its last use in the Guyana vs USA South Panthers match in July. The dynamic domestic season is said to provide more than an adequate preparation for the ‘Green Machine’ on its road to Mexico in November for the RAN’s Sevens 2017.A victory in Mexico would provide great rewards. Hence, the players’ welfare at every tournament is a priority, as a massive number of rugby games are anticipated to be played both domestically and internationally if the Green Machine secure victory at RAN‘s Sevens 2017.last_img
